Scopas Tang Live Saltwater Fish
Scopas Tang – Brown Scopas Tang (Zebrasoma scopas) | Live Saltwater Fish | coralSLover®
The Scopas Tang, also known as the Brown Scopas Tang, is a hardy and highly adaptable surgeonfish known for its unique gradient coloration and elegant patterning. Its dorsal side carries warm yellow tones that transition into rich browns toward the ventral and posterior areas, creating a smooth front-to-back darkening effect. Fine, delicate light blue line markings overlay the body, giving this tang a beautifully detailed appearance. The tail is solid brown, providing bold contrast.
Juvenile Scopas Tangs often show enhanced vibrancy, with slightly larger dorsal and anal fins and a subtle purplish body tone, making them especially attractive in grow-out systems.
Tank Requirements & Temperament
Minimum Tank Size: 125+ gallons
Temperament: Semi-aggressive
Reef Safe: Yes
Swimming Space: High; requires open areas and rockwork
Care Level: Moderate
Scopas Tangs can become territorial toward other tangs, especially those of similar shape or size. It is strongly recommended to keep only one Scopas Tang per tank unless housed in a very large system.
Diet
Primary Diet: Herbivore
Although they will consume meaty foods provided to the aquarium, Scopas Tangs require frequent access to marine-based algae and seaweed to maintain health, color, and temperament.

Dried seaweed (nori)

High-quality algae wafers
A strong herbivore diet helps:
