Duskfire Zoanthids
Duskfire Zoanthids – Aquacultured Collector Zoanthid Coral | coralSLover®
Classification: Collector Zoanthid Coral
Scientific Name: Zoanthus sp.
Common Name: Duskfire Zoanthids
Type: Zoanthid Coral
Polyp Size: Medium (approximately 1/4"–3/8"+)
Growth Form: Colonial encrusting polyps
Family: Zoanthidae
Symbiosis: Contains photosynthetic zooxanthellae algae
Zoanthids are colonial cnidarians closely related to anemones and corals. Their coloration is influenced by fluorescent proteins, zooxanthellae density, lighting spectrum, and nutrient stability.
Why It’s a Collector Morph:
Duskfire Zoanthids are considered a collector morph due to their uncommon deep blue-violet coloration and limited availability within the hobby. While not classified as a high-end ultra-premium zoanthid, this morph remains desirable because of its unusual dusk-like contrast and the rarity of stable colonies in aquaculture circulation.
The Duskfire Zoanthids feature a deep dark blue-violet oral disc, a vivid ember-orange center, and a contrasting dark olive-green skirt. Together, these colors create a dramatic “sunset after dark” appearance that stands out clearly under reef lighting.
Under blue or actinic LEDs, the orange center becomes significantly brighter and more fluorescent, while the darker face develops rich indigo-to-purple tones. The olive-green skirt provides subtle contrast and natural movement, framing the glowing center without overpowering the darker coloration.
Unlike ultra-high-end zoanthids with extreme rainbow layering, the Duskfire morph is appreciated more for its balanced dusk-toned palette, rarity, and unusual cool-to-warm contrast. Colonies form dense mats over time and develop excellent visual depth in zoanthid gardens and mixed reef displays.
This morph is fully aquacultured by coralSLover® in controlled indoor reef systems, producing healthy, aquarium-adapted polyps with stable coloration and reliable growth.
GREAT FOR

Reefers seeking uncommon blue-violet morphs
Mixed reefs requiring darker contrast coloration
Hobbyists looking for medium-sized polyps with stable growth
Aquariums using blue or actinic LED lighting
