Pink Bar Zebra Dartfish – Peaceful Reef-Safe Marine Fish
Common Names: Pink Bar Dartfish, Zebra Dartfish, Zebra Firefish
Scientific Name: Ptereleotris zebra
Category: Dartfish / Firefish
Difficulty: Beginner
Temperament: Peaceful
Reef Safe: Yes
The Pink Bar Zebra Dartfish is a graceful and peaceful marine fish prized for its slender body, soft pink bars, and subtle zebra-like striping. Its elegant coloration and calm swimming behavior make it an excellent addition to reef aquariums where gentle movement and visual balance are desired.
This dartfish is most often seen hovering in the mid-water column above rockwork, retreating quickly into crevices when startled. Its shy yet curious personality adds natural reef behavior without disturbing tankmates. The Pink Bar Zebra Dartfish is well suited for community reef systems with other peaceful fish and invertebrates.
Hardy once acclimated, this species readily accepts frozen and prepared foods and adapts well to captive conditions. A sand bed and live rock with caves or overhangs are strongly recommended to replicate its natural habitat.
Like most dartfish, this species is an excellent jumper. A tightly fitting lid or mesh cover is required to prevent escape.
CARE
• Peaceful and non-aggressive
• Best kept singly or in compatible pairs
• Enjoys hovering and darting behavior
• Requires hiding spots among live rock
• Known jumper - covered aquarium recommended
DIET
The Pink Bar Zebra Dartfish feeds on small planktonic foods and should be offered:
• Mysis shrimp
• Enriched brine shrimp
• Fine frozen marine blends
• High-quality marine pellets or flakes
GREAT FOR
• Beginner reef keepers
• Peaceful community reef tanks
• Mixed reefs with corals and invertebrates
• Aquarists seeking elegant, active mid-water fish
