Purple Alveopora Coral
Purple Alveopora – Aquacultured Colony LPS Coral | coralSLover®
Common name: Purple Alveopora
Scientific name:Alveopora sp.
Coral type: Large Polyp Stony (LPS) Coral
Purple Alveopora Colony displays light purple short tentacle tips set against a deeper dark purple body, creating a soft, flower-like appearance that adds elegance and motion to reef aquariums. When fully extended, the coral can expand beyond its skeletal base, forming a large, flowing display that contrasts beautifully with more rigid coral structures, but displays short tentacle tip.
In the wild, Alveopora species are found throughout the Indo-Pacific region, often inhabiting reef slopes and turbid water environments. This natural habitat contributes to their tolerance of moderate lighting and preference for gentle, indirect water movement rather than intense, direct flow.
Compared to other long-polyp LPS corals, Alveopora is generally easier to maintain and less demanding. It performs best under moderate lighting and moderate water flow that allows the polyps to sway freely without excessive force. High lighting is not recommended, as it may cause polyp retraction or tissue stress.
Placement:
Lower to mid areas of the aquarium
Allow generous spacing for full expansion
Moderate, indirect flow
Great For:
Mixed reef aquariums
Reef keepers seeking soft movement and pastel tones
LPS-focused displays seeking for Colony
