Rainbow Galaxea – Live Aquaculture Coral
Dynamic Colors | Gold to Yellow Tentacles | White & Teal Tips | Sustainably Grown by coralSLover®

Classification: High-End / Premium SPS-Style Stony Coral

Rainbow Galaxea (Galaxea sp.) is a stony LPS-style coral known for its long, fleshy tentacles, radial polyp structure, and spectacular color variability. Its tentacles, ranging from deep gold to bright yellow with white and teal tips, display a natural fluorescence under actinic and blue LED lighting, producing a dynamic “rainbow” effect. Color intensity is influenced by environmental factors such as light spectrum, water flow, nutrient levels, and tank placement.

This coral is slow-growing and encrusting, forming dense colonies over skeletal substrate. Each frag (½"–1") is carefully propagated in controlled aquaculture systems at coralSLover®, ensuring healthy skeletal growth, full polyp extension, and stable coloration. Rainbow Galaxea exhibits typical Galaxea traits, including moderately extended polyps during the day and diurnal contraction for protection, demonstrating both resilience and adaptability to a range of reef environments.

Scientific Notes:

  • Genus: Galaxea

  • Growth Form: Encrusting, with dense, long tentacles extending radially from each polyp

  • Coloration: Highly variable; tentacle and tip fluorescence shifts with light intensity and spectrum

  • Feeding: Photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae; can also benefit from supplemental microplankton or LPS-targeted feed

  • Environmental Tolerance: Prefers moderate to high light and flow; tolerates minor variations in water chemistry due to aquaculture acclimation

Sustainability & Provenance:
This Rainbow Galaxea has never been wild-collected. This strain has been part of the coralSLover® aquaculture program, originally obtained as a small frag for our private collection. Over nearly a decade of propagation, it has proven remarkably stable and resilient. By growing it entirely in our controlled systems, we ensure a healthy, acclimated coral while protecting natural reefs from collection stress.

Frag Size: ½"–1", skeletal base supporting fully extended polyp clusters when open.

Great For: Advanced hobbyists, collectors, and reef enthusiasts seeking a rare, visually evolving coral centerpiece.

Free Shipping: When qualified.

Information

Galaxea or Galaxy Corals are a hardy stony coral that grows additional heads quickly. This variety is a long tentacle variety with extremely fluorescent coloration. Please be aware that Galaxea have long sweeper tentacles and need plenty of space to themselves.

Lighting

Galaxea does not require as much light as some other corals. It can be kept under normal output fluorescents without much difficulty. In our experience this coral does poorly in medium to high light reef aquariums.

Water Flow

Moderate flow is recommended.

Feeding

Galaxea relies heavily on the products of their zooxanthellae. This coral may benefit from finely ground meaty foods. The food should almost have a paste-like consistency before being administered due to the small size of the polyps.

Warning and Handling

Galaxea are notorious for long sweeper tentacles that can sting nearby corals. Give this coral plenty of space to minimize aggression.
