Fromia Varieties Starfish – Includes Pack
Fromia Starfish – Live Reef-Safe Sea Star
The Fromia Starfish is a beautifully patterned and peaceful sea star, recognized by its rich reddish surface accented with tiny black dots. Its striking coloration and slow, deliberate movement make it an elegant addition to established reef aquariums and peaceful fish systems.
This species is delicate and sensitive, requiring a mature, well-established aquarium with stable water chemistry, abundant live rock, and a healthy sandbed. Excellent water quality is critical for long-term success, as Fromia starfish do not tolerate rapid parameter changes or poor conditions.
When properly cared for, Fromia Starfish help graze on biofilm, algae, detritus, and microorganisms found on live rock and substrate. Supplemental feeding with small, finely minced meaty foods such as clam, squid, or shrimp is recommended to support long-term health, especially in newer or low-nutrient systems.
Care & Requirements:
Tank Maturity: Established reef system required
Substrate: Thick sandbed with abundant live rock
Diet: Natural grazing plus supplemental minced meaty foods
Acclimation: Drip acclimation is essential
Sensitivity: Cannot tolerate copper-based medications or rapid water changes
Compatibility: Peaceful; avoid aggressive fish such as puffers and triggerfish
Multiple Fromia Starfish may be kept together only in larger, well-established tanks with sufficient natural food availability.
Important Care:
Fromia Starfish are highly sensitive to water quality changes.
Never expose to copper medications.
Slow drip acclimation is required to prevent osmotic shock.
Great For:
Experienced reef keepers with mature aquariums
Reef tanks with abundant live rock and stable parameters
Hobbyists seeking a colorful, peaceful invertebrate
Large reef systems with established microfauna
Display tanks where slow, natural movement is desired
