Rainbow Acan Echinata
Rainbow Echinata – Premium Aquacultured LPS Coral | coralSLover®
Classification: Premium LPS Coral
Scientific Name: Acanthastrea echinata
Family: Lobophylliidae
Common Names: Rainbow Echinata, Rainbow Acan Echinata
Rainbow Echinata is a highly regarded large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its dense skeletal structure, thick fleshy polyps, and vibrant multi-color expression. This coral displays a complex blend of greens, oranges, reds, blues, and purples, often layered within each corallite to produce a true “rainbow” effect. Under blue or actinic lighting, fluorescence intensifies, revealing glowing centers and contrasting color bands across the colony.
Unlike Acan Lords, Acanthastrea echinata forms uniform, shared corallite walls, giving it a more compact and architectural appearance. When partially retracted, the fleshy tissue folds inward in a characteristic accordion-like texture, a defining feature of this species. The overall growth form is dense and encrusting, creating a solid, visually rich colony rather than individual, separated heads.
Rainbow Echinata is a favorite among collectors for its balance of bold coloration, structural texture, and manageable growth, making it suitable for both display-focused LPS systems and mixed reef aquariums.
All Rainbow Echinata corals offered by coralSLover® are aquacultured, fully healed, and adapted to aquarium life for improved stability and long-term success.
