Information

Leptastrea coral will stand out in any reef aquarium. It is easy to keep and will encrust over the rocks as it grows. Leptastrea is a member of the Faviidae family and are an LPS coral despite their small polyp size. This coral is in the LPS family, although its polyps are small enough that some might suggest it fits into the SPS group as well. These corals grow in the shape of a dome and come in many different color morphs.   The Leptastrea coral can look quite furry, but these polyps can suck in tightly, showing tiny mouth shaped divots.

Lighting

Leptastrea is an encrusting coral that’s easy to care for and does not need to be under very intense lighting.  This great encruster will simply grow over whatever rock he’s placed on and doesn’t fuss.

Water Flow

Moderate to High water movement is recommended. Like most SPS, Psammocora in high flow appreciate strong water movement.

Feeding

Although symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae hosted within them supply most of their nutritional requirements through photosynthesis they do benefit from supplemental feedings of Oyster-Feast, mysis shrimp, or finely chopped meaty foods.
