Grafted Montipora Capricornis SPS Coral at coralSLover, your premier online aquaculture farm for eco-friendly and sustainably grown corals. Known for its stunning grafted patterns and robust growth, this coral is perfect for serious reef enthusiasts looking to elevate their aquarium with exceptional quality and color.

Aquaculture: Think of frags as montipora seeds. Fragments of montipora are mounted onto small stones and grown in aquariums. We grow and frag corals Grafted Cap here at coralSLover Farm.

Placement: Mount the Grafted Cap using IC gel glue, or putty, on an exposed rock or ledge in the aquarium where it will receive direct flow and light. Remember that as it grows and plates out it will create more and more shade below it.

Feeding: coralSLover recommends feeding acropora corals with Oyster-Feast and/or Roti-Feast. Target feeding gets the corals fed using less food while keeping your nitrates and phosphates lower.

Lighting & Flow Requirements: Grafted Cap requires moderate to high water flow and bright lighting (PAR 250-400) to maintain its color. T5's, Metal Halides, or LED's can all grow acropora when the proper PAR levels are provided. We recommend a 14-20K color spectrum for best coloration.

Care Level: Easy - great beginner SPS coral!
Lighting Requirements: Moderate to high (PAR 250-400)
Water Flow: Moderate to high
Aggressiveness: Peaceful
Range: Indo-Pacific
Family: Montipora capricornus
Water Conditions: 75-80° F; sg 1.024-1.026 (1.025 is ideal); pH 8.1-8.4 Ca 420-440 ppm, Alk 8-9.5 dKH, Mg 1260-1350, Nitrates <10ppm, Phosphates, < .10ppm

Water Chemistry: It is important that proper calcium (420-440 ppm), alkalinity (8-9.5 dkh - run it 7-8 if you are carbon dosing) , and magnesium levels (1260-1350 ppm) are maintained. Raising magnesium levels gradually up to 1400-1600 ppm can help to combat algae outbreaks, just keep CA and Alk in line as you raise the Mg. Nitrates should be below 10 ppm and phosphates should be below .10 ppm. We recommend doing a water change when Nitrate levels rise to 10 ppm. It is important to replace your phosphate media when phosphates rise to .10 ppm. Media Reactors make the most efficient use of your phosphate media by fluidizing it.

Dosing: In coralSLover uses and recommends dosing pumps to automate the dosing of additives and keep your levels more constant. A dosing pump can alleviate the chore of manually dosing your aquarium with Ca, Alk, & Mg 2,3, or 4 times per week and will benefit your aquarium by keeping your levels constant through frequent small additions of Ca, Alk, & Mg. Our tanks all progressed when we switched from 3 manual dosings per week to 70 automatic dosings per week and we got a lot more work done.

Lighting: High and stable PAR levels are crucial for SPS health and vibrant coloration. These corals thrive best under strong, consistent lighting provided by high-quality LED, T5, or hybrid fixtures. Proper acclimation to light intensity helps prevent bleaching and promotes steady growth.

Flow: Strong, turbulent water movement is essential to keep delicate tissues clean, deliver nutrients, and encourage healthy polyp extension. A random, alternating flow pattern works best to mimic natural reef conditions.

Placement: Position SPS frags or colonies on mid to upper rockwork to maximize both light and flow exposure. Secure mounting is important, as SPS corals often encrust rapidly before branching outward. Strategic placement also allows room for future growth without shading neighboring corals.

Water Quality: Pristine and stable water parameters are non-negotiable. Maintain balanced alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels, with low but detectable nutrients to sustain healthy growth and coloration. Even small parameter fluctuations can affect SPS polyp extension or lead to color loss, so consistent monitoring and dosing are key.

Feeding: While SPS corals derive most of their energy from photosynthesis via their symbiotic zooxanthellae, they also benefit from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate coral foods to enhance growth, coloration, and overall vitality.

Difficulty: Best suited for intermediate to advanced hobbyists. SPS corals thrive in well-established reef systems where conditions remain stable over time and regular testing is part of the routine.

Sustainability: All SPS corals offered by coralSLover are fully aquacultured with zero wild collection, making them eco-conscious, tank-hardy, and better adapted to aquarium life.

Disclaimer:
Corals on the pictures are not WYSIWYG, photos was made under different lighting (blue or white lights) and in different tank (our show of frag tanks). You will get coral size as described, shape and color could be slightly off due to shipping stress.
After shipping stress soft corals (Mushrooms, Cloves, all types of  Leathers) always will  look shrink and colorless, won't look as on photos. For them to recover and adjust to new environments they will need 3-7 days in low lights and flow. Specially for mushroom we recommend to keep they under 100PAR and less.
