Devil's Hand Leather Live Aquaculture Soft Coral

from $49.95

Devil's Hand Leather Coral with green tips.

The Devil's Hand Leather Live Aquaculture Soft Coral is also referred to as Finger Leather Coral, Cabbage Leather Coral, or Lobed Leather Coral. It is very difficult to identify an exact species because there is so much variation within the genus. It is closely related to corals of the Sarcophyton genus, and especially with small colonies, it is almost impossible to differentiate between the two. It varies in color between shades of brown, tan, pink, yellow, or green.

Its behavior is peaceful, but it will still require space between others and itself within the reef aquarium. Some species are toxic to stony corals. It is very easy to maintain in the reef aquarium and makes an excellent coral for the beginning through expert reef aquarist. The Devil's Hand Leather Coral will require medium to high lighting combined with medium to strong water movement. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of iodine, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.

The symbiotic algae zooxanthellae hosted within its body provides the majority of its nutritional needs from the light driven process of photosynthesis. It will also benefit from additional food such as micro-plankton, baby brine shrimp, or foods designed for filter feeding invertebrates.

It is normally shipped attached to a small piece of live rock or rubble. The Maricultured Coral is mounted to a natural “rock like” plug that can be placed easily and securely in or between rock work in the reef aquarium.

Approximate Purchase Size: Frag: 1-1/2"; Medium: 2-1/2" to 3-1/4"; Large: 3-1/2" to 4"

Lighting: Low to moderate lighting is generally sufficient. Soft corals thrive under a range of conditions, with many showing their best coloration under balanced or slightly blue spectrum lighting.

Flow: Moderate, indirect water movement helps keep tissue clean and encourages natural swaying motion. Avoid overly strong flow that can cause the polyps to retract or tear.

Placement: Flexible placement — mid to lower rockwork or areas with steady but gentle flow work best. Many soft corals can adapt well to different areas of the tank as they grow and spread.

Water Quality: Stable, clean water with moderate nutrients supports healthy growth. Soft corals are often more forgiving than SPS or LPS but still benefit from regular maintenance and stability.

Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic, but may benefit from occasional broadcast feeding of fine particulate foods to support faster growth and polyp extension.

Difficulty: Beginner friendly and adaptable, making them excellent starter corals. They can thrive in a wide range of reef conditions with consistent care.

Sustainability: Fully aquacultured, zero wild collection — responsibly propagated for long-term aquarium success.

Disclaimer:
Corals on the pictures are not WYSIWYG, photos was made under different lighting (blue or white lights) and in different tank (our show of frag tanks). You will get coral size as described, shape and color could be slightly off due to shipping stress.
After shipping stress soft corals (Mushrooms, Cloves, all types of  Leathers) always will  look shrink and colorless, won't look as on photos. For them to recover and adjust to new environments they will need 3-7 days in low lights and flow. Specially for mushroom we recommend to keep they under 100PAR and less.
