The Favites Pentagona is a brilliant and beautiful brain coral species. The coral has intense bright red color contrasting against the lime green mouths.

We have available for sale frag over 1,5"+ in size and mostly the time colony's.

The Favites Pentagona is a brilliant and beautiful brain coral species. The coral has intense bright red color contrasting against the lime green mouths.

Favites pentagona species is also called “War Coral”, or sometimes “Larger Star Coral” and has often been confused with the genus Favia, another closely related brain coral. The War Coral and its many color morphs are an amazing compliment to any reef aquarium. Usually, it can be found encrusting around live rock, close to the base of other coral structures. Occasionally, it will form itself into column like structures.

Placement of the War Coral is consistently in the lower two-thirds of the aquarium with ample distance given from other coral species. They will also require moderate light and water movement.

Favites species will generally feed at night on a variety of microplanktons and brine shrimp. It would benefit from being fed 2-3 times a week close to lights out when tentacles begin to show. These feedings will help with the overall growth and health of the coral.

Lighting: Moderate to moderately high lighting brings out vibrant coloration and supports steady growth. Many LPS prefer indirect or slightly shaded areas to avoid tissue stress.

Flow: Moderate, indirect water movement is ideal. Gentle but consistent flow keeps polyps clean and extended without damaging their fleshy tissue.

Placement: Mid to lower rockwork or sandbed is often best. Allow ample space between colonies, as many LPS have long sweeper tentacles and can sting neighbors.

Water Quality: Stable parameters are key — maintain balanced alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels with low to moderate nutrients. Sudden changes can stress fleshy polyps.

Feeding: LPS benefit from targeted or occasional broadcast feeding of meaty or particulate foods to support faster growth and vibrant coloration.

Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate friendly — many LPS are hardy but appreciate consistent conditions and occasional feeding for best results.
