The Flame Hawk has a colorful personality (and body) that could be added to a smaller aquarium. These bright little fish can be seen perching on top of rocks throughout a day, protecting their territory. They will quickly establish a territory and keep other fish at bay, which may be a problem if there are many bottom dwelling fish. The Flame Hawkfish is a hardy fish that can adapt well to aquarium settings and has a small adult size of 4", which makes them ideal for beginner aquarists. Take caution when adding the hawkfish to reef aquariums because they may take up residence in some branching SPS corals, which could damage them. They are also a possible predator of small ornamental crustaceans. Most hawkfish will readily adapt to a variety of foods, which should include a thawed carnivorous mix. They are a bright red color with some darkening around their eyes and below the dorsal fin. They are found in the Pacific Ocean among the surge-swept reefs to a depth of 10 meters.
